Mr. Potato Head

Mr. Potato Head is a classic and can be used in so many ways to practice developmental skills. It is designed for children ages 2 and older. Here are a few ideas for use at home:

Speech & Language: Practice identifying and/or naming body parts. Your child can also practice requesting 'more' or specific items. During pretend play, you can have Mr. Potato Head perform different actions (e.g., run, jump, walk, fly, hop, etc.) and even take turns while doing this. Pieces for Mr. Potato Head can be earned by practicing target speech therapy sounds/words.

Fine Motor/Visual Motor: Simply playing with Mr. Potato Head allows your child to practice grasp, dexterity, depth perception, bilateral hand coordination, and even sequencing.

Sensory: Hide pieces in sensory bins, Play Doh, or shaving cream. You can even practice food play by having Mr. Potato Head 'taste' different foods.

Gross Motor: Place pieces around the room and have your child perform different movements to get to them (e.g., jump, hop, bear crawl, skip, etc.). You can also set up an obstacle course that a child has to complete to get a piece.

You can purchase Mr. (or Mrs.) Potato Head through our Therapy Shop here: Mr. Potato Head or Mrs. Potato Head.
